Katie is a Registered Equine Massage Therapist (REMT) working in Southwestern Ontario. Her love for animals led her to complete the Veterinary Technology Program at Ridgetown College in 2011. Because most local clinics focus on small animal care, Katie wanted an outlet that would allow her to work more closely with horses. Having grown up around them, equine massage therapy felt like a natural fit alongside her work in practice. She pursued the REMT program at D’Arcy Lane Institute of Massage Therapy and graduated in 2014.
Katie strongly believes in working as a team with equine professionals, including veterinarians, coaches, trainers and other body workers within the horse’s circle of care. She loves when various professionals can come together to solve lameness or movement issues and help keep a horse performing at their best.
When working with a horse, Katie especially enjoys the feedback the horse gives during the massage. She also values hearing from the owners in the days that follow and learning about the improvements they have noticed. One of her absolute favourite moments is when a horse really leans into a stretch, or even better, offers a self-stretch in the middle of a session.
When she is not actively working with horses, Katie stays busy with her family, including her four children. Her two oldest daughters have started riding lessons, and it has been special to watch their love of horses grow over the past few years. They live on a small acreage with more than twenty chickens, meat turkeys, one dog and one cat. Katie and her family successfully grow vegetables, such as onions, squash, and bell peppers to sell locally. When the house is finally quiet, she enjoys crafting or crocheting.
